Embracing mediocrity doesn’t mean one can’t rise above his own. Upon an initial read, that statement might sound defeatist. Most my life I’ve been trying to rise above mediocrity, and I’ve failed.

Why? I’ve been comparing my life to those who’ve already achieved their goals, similar goals I’ve set for myself. I’ll always fall in the “average” fold when my system of measurement is flawed.

If I resolve to only compare against myself then each action I take is a step toward accomplishment and away from inaction, and the self mediocrity that follows.

Put on the horse blinders and be the best version of oneself.
